Mendocino
Celebrates Success
Every
year almost 30,000 customers walk through the doors of the Mendocino
Works Resource Centers - and most of them are looking for a job. They
come to us because our services extend far beyond what you'll usually
find at an employment agency. The same thing is true for you - our business
customers.
Through
the joint venture of Mendocino Works, you will also find layoff assistance
and prevention, outstanding financial incentives, and access to crucial
information to help your business succeed.
Mendocino
Works wouldn't work without the Workforce Investment Board (WIB), comprised
of private employers and public agency representatives. The WIB oversees
the management of Mendocino Works, continually working to ensure our
services are meeting our local employer's needs.
At
the recent "Celebration of Success 2002" held June 1st at
the Ukiah Conference Center, we honored 57 customers who have discovered
the unique benefits of working with us. Two of those honorees are pictured
here: Richard Kemppe, who works at Wal-Mart, and Nicole Bartel and Skip
Sloan, shown onsite at their new tree nursery business.
Mendocino
Works is here for all members of the community - whether you're looking
for a job or your next employee, wanting to upgrade your skills or business,
need assistance with training, or are seeking information about the
multitude of community resources available to you.
Perhaps
the best way to learn about how we can assist your business is to hear
about how we've helped other local employers. Let's start with Janis
Tappin of Personal Management Services, our "Employer of the Year":
PERSONAL
MANAGEMENT SERVICES
Personal
Management Services has hired six Mendocino Works clients through the
On-the-Job Training program. The OJT program paid half the employee's
wages during the contract period, which helped tremendously during training.
Two of those employees were also hired through the Work Experience program,
which paid the entire wage during the training period. These employees
worked out so well because they were highly motivated and ready to go
to task. I would not hesitate to use Mendocino Works services again.
In fact, whenever I need a new employee, I always check with Mendocino
Works first.

"I
would still be struggling with a tremendous workload if it had not been
for the services I received through Mendocino Works. Our Office Assistant,
Alyce Power, came to us through the Work Experience Program, tackling
many office duties, including several computer programs. We were able
to secure her position with the On-the-Job Training Program where she
was able to learn the basics of the work responsibilities in the Garden
Shop. Her positive attitude, willingness to learn, and enthusiasm has
made her one of our prized employees."

ECOSYSTEMS
"EcoSystems
Design & Development contacted Mendocin Works to help with our manpower
needs for a project at the Hopland Band of Pomo Indians. Ecosystems
had never used a public employment agency before after how we were treated
and the outcome of hiring good employees has solidly sold us with your
capabilities and performance."

RETECH SYSTEMS, LLC
When my company was forced to implement a reduction in force, I wanted
to assure that the affected employees had information on services available
to them and outplacement assistance. The Mendocino Private Industry
Council (MPIC) and the Employment Development Department (two Mendocino
Works partners) provided packets of information and sent representatives
to meet with employees in person. The employees were able to make appointments
on the spot to meet with counselors and were able to hear first hand
about the numerous services available to them.
I've had very positive feedback from employees who are taking advantage
Mendocino Works services, from resume preparation to guidance on the
interview process. I appreciated the responsiveness and assistance provided
by MPIC's staff. It made a very difficult process a little easier for
everyone concerned.

Whenever
I need a new employee, I check with Mendocino Works first - in fact,
forty percent of my original employees came through them. Kat has been
with us since the beginning and is now our Manager of Technical Support.
And Dee Dee, our Office Manager, was with us for three years.
Employees
referred by Mendocino Works are pre-screened, already trained, and ready
to go to work. And there is no risk involved - if they don't work out,
you're under no obligation to hire them. The fact that half the training
wages are picked up is another big advantage. It simply makes good business
sense to check with MPIC when you're ready to hire. It's a great organization.
